Cassie’s 18-month doctor appointment was yesterday, and without further ado, here are her stats:
Length: 30.5″ (17%)
Weight: 17 lbs 2 ozs (0%)
Head Circ: 45.5 cm (21%)
All I can say is, yikes. Once again we get to go back in a month to do a weight-check. The doctor suggested that instead of letting her graze throughout the day that I need to prohibit eating within 2-3 hours of a main meal. She said this would be a difficult change for her, and in the half-day that we’ve started, I’m seeing this to be true. We’re hoping that by having her eat mostly at main meals that she will consume more calories than by keeping her hunger at bay throughout the day, as this is a technique people employ who are trying to watch their weight.
And 18 things about Cassie at 18 months (because I’m sentimental like that):
- Loves animals, especially kitties and doggies. When she sees them she gets really excited and leans over saying, “hiiiiiii…” This carries over into a love of soft stuffed animals.
- Has a sweet disposition, for the most part, and is only grumpy when Aurora takes her toy, she is hungry, or is tired.
- Loves babies. She loves that Kaili is over at our house so much, and thinks she’s really helpful, getting her stuff out of the diaper bag for me all the time. She also has to carry a baby doll around with her everywhere she goes, and likes to wrap it in a blanket.
- Loves candy, or “caaannnny.” She would eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if I let her. I’m still working on other favorites, as her past favorites of sausage and beans haven’t been going over well lately.
- Wears 12-month clothes, for the most part. The pants are getting kind of short, as are the sleeves, but 18-month clothes still drown her and are too long.
- Sleeps from 9 pm – 8 am, with a 1-2 hour nap during the day.
- Finally gets to go to nursery! And she does pretty well, considering it’s during her old nap time.
- Loves playing with her kitchen and all the new foods and kitchen supplies the girls were given for Christmas.
- Repeats a lot of the words I say, and has a pretty good vocabulary for her age, including “pleeeeease,” “cannnny” (candy), “up!” “down,” “doggy,” “itty” (kitty), “uhm-ma” (grandma), “sie” (Gramsie), “Ton” (Ashton – she recognizes him in pictures), “Rora” (Aurora), “Daaad – y,” “Momma – y,” “Pa!” (Grandpa), “Umpa!” (Grandpapa), “eye-lie” (Kaili), “side” (outside),”Baby,” “pen” (open), “hi,” “banby” (blanky, which is very difficult to distinguish from “baby), “buh-bye,” “eat,” “wa-wa” (water, but she also says it when she wants milk), “NOW!” (usually said with her finger pointing in the direction of something she wants, and if it’s in a different room, she will take my hand and lead me to what she wants.) “food,” “nana” (banana), “ball,” and of course, “NO” (with a huge head shake, like how dare you ask). I’m sure I’m missing some, but these are the ones that I can think of from the top of my head.
- Loves reading stories, but doesn’t like the slow pace it requires to read most of them, so we make up shortened stories a lot.
- Is starting to sing really well. Knows most of “Twinkle Twinkle,” “Itsy-Bitsy Spider,” “Ball for Baby,” and “I Love to See the Temple.” But will try and sing with most other songs.
- Still loves to dance!
- Climbs up on everything. We’re just waiting for the day we hear a crash indicating her climbing out of her crib.
- Is still very shy, and it takes her quite a while to warm up to someone. She is also very sparse with her smiles when she’s around people she doesn’t know very well.
- Is a bit addicted to her blanky, and still sucks her tongue when she’s holding it up to her mouth for comfort.
- Hates having me do her hair or having anything in it, but loves girly clothes, like dresses and skirts.
- Is finally liking bath time!
- Is a die-hard Mommy fan.
We love you, Cassie Roo! Please start growing so your Mommy doesn’t have to keep stressing out about your size!

How fun to have 18 things to read about Cassie. She is such a sweet little girl. Maybe she just hasn’t found out how good food is yet.
