For the Love of…Reading

Something that I love is reading. When Mommy was pregnant with me, she was in school and she read to me quite a bit. I would get really excited and wiggle around while she was in class. I was just so excited to be learning!

When I was two months old, Mommy graduated. Since I had gone to classes with her, I received an honorary cap and gown:

My Aunt Sarah and Grandma W made it for me during my mom’s graduation ceremony. I think I look pretty prestigious in it. What do you think?

Anyways, thus started a life-long love of reading. Mommy lets me read to her every day:

Reading with Mommy

I have a lot of books on all sorts of things. I love Dr. Suess books a lot, and I love my book about strawberries called “Jamberry.” I would ask Mommy to read it to me several times a day, so I thought every book was about picking berries. Once when Mommy took me to the library, she let me borrow my very own book. It was about gardening and making soup from the vegetables you can grow. I saw the tomatoes in it and thought they were strawberries:

I especially love my books about animals.

Reading to Rachel

It’s fun to look at all the animals and try to make the sounds that they make. When I see a picture of a dog, I make a “ga” sound like a dog bark while patting my knee and whistling. I make a popping sound for a fishy, I wiggle my nose for the bunny, go “pppph” for a horse, and “RAWWR” for most everything else.

Mommy says if I’m not careful, I’ll end up like her – nose stuck in a book walking down the halls of school. She says people like that are called “nerds.” I kind of like the sound of being a nerd though. They’re tasty candies!

One time she was sitting next to a girl and I kept flopping back and forth. Mommy said the girl looked a little scared to see me wiggling all over in her belly, but I was just so excited to be learning!

I especially love my Book of Mormon:

Mommy lets me choose the stories that we read . I love the one about the Liahona. It looks like a ball, so I always point to it and say, “baaal?” Mommy’s Book of Mormon doesn’t have pictures, but I still like to flip through it and read my favorite parts to her. Gramsie bought me a cool Book of Mormon quiet book that I get to take to church with me. It’s fun because it has pictures on velcro that I get to put on and pull off the pages.

Books are wonderful! Glad you enjoy them. Way to go, mom, for starting you out so young!! JJ loves reading, too. And a nose stuck in a book is all I ever am :) She’s adorable! I LOVE the video of her “reading” it’s darling to hear her little voice on each page. Love it!!

I remember that Jill read to Steven a lot. I would read to him once in awhile but would deliberately read some of the words incorrectly. Steven couldn’t read but he could remember what the words were and would immediately notice.

On a different topic, if you want an automatic backup for your blog try the WordPress Database Backup plugin by Austin Matzko. It doesn’t backup your images but will email all your other content to you every day. Currently I back up my images manually as they are all in the same place. Even if you have a backup system in place you could still use this plugin as a secondary backup system.
